GIVEAWAYS

We want
infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers, and school-age
children
to
have the chance to enjoy looking at quality
children's books,
to hear books read aloud, and to practice their
emerging reading skills.
We want to help children love reading
and learn
to read well. That's
why the Soho
Center has given away about $20 million
of quality
children's books in Virginia. Soho has given
books to Title I Public Elementary Schools, over
1,000
Head
Start Classrooms, UVa Children's
Hospital, the USO, 92 Public
Libraries, the Children's Hospital of
Richmond at VCU, 300 Boys & Girls Clubs and After-school Programs, Family Child Care
Homes, Home-Visitor
Programs, Community Groups, United Way of Greater Charlottesville, and more.

The
Soho
Center has given over 195,000 quality,
hardcover children's books
to
every one of the 1,026 Head Start
classrooms across Virginia.
Head
Start classrooms use Soho's quality
books for
daily classroom use and for
family-lending libraries. (Please

Over 500,000 Books for UVa
Children's
Hospital
Soho
has given over 500,000 quality
children's books to the University of
Virginia Children's
Hospital for sick children and their
siblings. Books are given
away at UVa
Children's Hospital, the Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and by
UVA pediatricians in several
locations.

The RED! Project
RED!
(Read Every Day!)
is an important new initiative of the
Soho Center. RED! gives
entering kindergarten students in
Title I elementary schools
one
book each day for the first ten days of
school. RED!was
piloted in 19 Title I public elementary
schools in Charlottesville,
Albermarle, Louisa, and Orange.

Boys & Girls Clubs in Central
Virginia and other areas of

Virginia for their summer reading /
feeding programs. Soho

Southwest Virginia
Soho
has partnered with the United Way of
Southwest Virginia and
provided over 40,000 quality
children's books to help
low-income
children in 13 counties and two
cities. Books are given
away at multiple community sites to
support grade level reading and
summer learning for many
low-income children. |

30,000 Books for the USO of Hampton
Roads and Central Virginia
The
USOHRCV serves military members and
their families at eleven locations
in Virginia. The USOHRCV, which
serves the largest
concentration
of military families in the country,
will give over 30,000 of Soho's
books to children whose parents serve in
all branches of the U.S.
military. |

Thousands of Books for United Way of Greater Charlottesville
Soho has partnered with the United Way of Greater Charlottesville to
donate and distribute quality children's
books to many local community
groups and sites, with an emphasis on
providing board books and picture
books to low-income children.

Over

Books for REACH
REACH
community volunteers will read Soho's
books to children in homeless
shelters and domestic abuse shelters -
and they'll give children in
homeless and domestic abuse shelters
Soho's books as gifts.
Soho's books are also shared with
multiple community organizations
serving low-income and at-risk
youth throughout Coastal
Virginia. |
